U. S. citizens and non-citizens who are registered Town residents may vote in all Town elections.
A Garrett Park Resident who is a U.S. citizen must be registered with
the Montgomery County Board of Elections and be included on the County’s voter list at the time of a Town election. Information and registration forms can be obtained from the Montgomery County website. Forms are also available in the Garrett Park Post Office lobby and at the Town Office. Registration must be completed at least 30 days prior to the election for the voter to be added to the county’s voter rolls.
Non U. S. CitizensA Garrett Park resident who is not a United States citizen is permitted to vote in all Town elections. Non-citizen voters must be registered with the Town at least 30 days prior to the election for the voters to be placed on the Town’s voter's list. The Non-Citizen voter registration form may be obtained
from the Town Office with photo identification. The deadline for 2017 is April 1.
Absentee ballot procedures are stipulated in the Code of Ordinances. Qualified voters who are unable to come to the polls on the day of the election may apply to the Town Office for an absentee ballot during regular office hours (8:30 AM–4:30 PM) until Wednesday, April 26.
Applications may be mailed or emailed. Late applications are available from the Town Office in person. On Election Day, applications are available from the Judges of Election at the polls in the Penn Place Post Office lobby. The application makes a provision for voters to designate an agent to pick up and deliver the absentee ballot on the voter’s behalf. Upon receipt of a properly completed application in person, by mail, email, or agent, the ballot will be delivered to the voter in person, via mail or the voter’s agent. Voters who plan to receive absentee ballots by mail should allow sufficient time for the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail. No absentee ballot received after 7:30 PM on Election Day will be opened and counted.
