Call 811 before you dig - it's the law

Post Date:07/23/2020 1:00 PM

Homeowners, please be aware that every digging or construction project requires a call to 8-1-1 at least two business days before work begins.

For homeowners who are...   installing a mailbox, erecting a fence, planting trees or shrubbery,  building a patio or deck, digging a new garden area etc.
For contractors who are...grading, trenching, digging, ditching,  drilling, auguring, tunneling, boring,  backfilling,  driving objects into the ground installing form pins, hammering,  scraping, undermining, diverting normal water flows, cable or pipe plowing etc.

Before beginning any project involving digging, call 8-1-1 to have underground lines marked for free. Once marked, you can complete your project with less risk of injury, disruption of service or large fines and repair costs.

There are a few facts you need before you call:
• The name of the county and town where you live
• Your home address and contact information
• The type of work or reason you are digging
• Nearest intersecting street to the dig site address
• Where you are digging on your property
